Quite a bit has happened since the last update. So here’s the recap - sorry it is a little long!!

Volleyball
The Trojans traveled to play the Chokers of Grays Harbor College on the 10th in Aberdeen, WA. Having already played the Chokers at home and won, the Trojans were looking to pick up another win. After a very long drive the Trojans had a good warm-up and came out strong to start the game. They won the first two games 25-22; 25-21, however it seemed the third game they lost some intensity and only won the game by 2 points - 27-25. The following Monday, 9/15, they traveled to Pierce College in Lakewood, WA to play the Raiders. This was a different team that showed to play, they didn’t play well at all. What made it even worse was the fact that Setter Korissa Clevish dove for a ball in the 2nd game and gave herself whiplash so bad that she gave herself a concussion and had to sit out for part of the third game - she is all healed now. The Trojans walked away from Pierce losing 15-25; 13-25; & 10-25. On Tuesday, the Trojans hosted the Trailblazers of Centralia College. The team knew what had to be done and started out strong but lost the first game 19-25. This seemed to light a fire under them and they were determined to take the next three games, and they did - 25-21, 25-19 & 25-20. Thursday morning saw the team going to Ontario, OR to play the Chukars of Treasure Valley CC on 9/18, and to participate in the Treasure Valley CC Crossover Tournament on 9/19 & 9/20. In Thursdays game vs TVCC, the Trojans let the crowd, more particularly the TVCC baseball players take them out of their game by the inappropriate remarks they were making. Taking a three game loss with scores of 10-25; 14-25; & 20-25. Friday afternoon, the Trojans had 2 matches; first with Clackamas CC at 3pm and the second with Tacoma CC at 7pm. Going almost point for point with Clackamas in the first game and only losing 24-26, it looked like the Trojans were there to play, however the next two games didn’t reflect that, they lost 13-25 & 19-25. With some time in between games, the Trojans relaxed some and watched their next opponent play. When it came their time to play TCC, the team was pumped up. Only it didn’t last, TCC got a small run in the first game and the Trojans didn’t step up to the challenge losing all three games, 16-25; 8-25; & 20-25. The next morning the Trojans - Grays Harbor College (again) at 9am; Treasure Valley CC at 1pm; and Big Bend CC at 3pm. Starting out with GHC, the Trojans looked like the team they have the potential to be. Winning the match 25-21; 25-22 & 25-18. With that win under their belt they felt good going into the game with TVCC. They played well, but were outplayed losing 20-25; 18-25; & 17-25. Going into the game with Big Bend CC, they started out really slow. losing 9-25. They did come back the second game and won 25-20 only to lose the third 14-25. In the fourth game, the line-up was changed up and they played extremely well only losing by 3 points - 22-25. On Wednesday, 9/24 league started with a trip down to Lynnwood to play the Edmonds CC Tritons. Not really sure what happened, but the Trojans didn’t give them a game to play, losing 10-25; 7-25; 7-25. Friday they traveled to Shoreline CC to play the Dolphins in what could have been a good match, however it seemed like the team over-thought everything that was going on and lost 14-25; 15-25 & 17-25. All of these games bring the Trojans overall record to 4-8 with a league record of 0-2. The next games are Wednesday 10/1 vs Olympic and Friday 10/3 vs Whatcom CC. Games are at 7pm and admission is free to EvCC Students w/EvCC ID, staff & Faculty. Women’s Soccer
Unfortunately, there have been some injuries that have not helped the Women’s Team be as competitive as they could be. On 9/9 they hosted Bellevue CC and after a hard 90 minutes, the Trojans lost 0-4. On 9/11, Shoreline CC traveled to Everett after some quick scoring on the Dolphins part, the Trojans couldn’t bounce back losing 0-3. On 9/13, the Trojans traveled to Longview, WA to play the Red Devils of Lower Columbia College. In a hard fought game, the Trojans scored, just not enough to win, losing 2-6. The Trojans then traveled to play first year team the Orcas of Whatcom CC in Bellingham, WA. The Orcas came out to win pushing the Trojans to play a very aggressive game which they lost 0-5. The Cardinals of Skagit Valley College came down on 9/18 to play the Trojans. The team played well and together but the Cardinals pushed a little harder beating the Trojans 1-4. Two days later on the 20th, the Trojans crossed the sound to play at Olympic College in Bremerton, WA. All of the goals were scored in the first half and unfortunately for the Trojans it wasn’t in their favor, losing 1-4. This past Saturday, 9/27, the Green River CC Gators came to town. Once again, both goals were scored in the first half, which meant that there was a lot of defense going on in the second half. This time the outcome was the same but only with a score of 0-2. This brings the overall record to 1-9-1 and league record to 1-7-1 (win-loss-tie) Men’s Soccer

The Men’s team have had many close games recently. First on the 9th, they like the women hosted the Bulldogs of Bellevue CC. The outcome of this game was the Trojans 0 Bulldogs 3. In the game on the 11th with Shoreline CC, the Trojans showed some great offense however at the end of the game they were still down one goal to the Dolphins 2-3. They traveled to Port Angeles, WA to play the Pirates of Peninsula College on 9/13. At the end of the 90 minute game, the score was tied 2-2. In regular season play there is no overtime nor shoot-outs so the 2-2 was the final outcome of the game. On the 16th, the Trojans went up to Bellingham to play the defending NWAACC 2007 champions - Whatcom CC. Like the champions they were from last year, the Orcas dominated the whole game. The ending score was 0-3 in favor of Whatcom. On 9/18, the Trojans hosted Skagit Valley College and played good defense and offense. They won 2-1 over the Cardinals. On the 20th, they traveled with the women’s team to Bremerton to face the Rangers of Olympic College. Even with the long bus ride and ferry ride, the Trojans showed the Rangers that they were the better team, winning 2-1. These games take the overall an league record for the men to 3-4-1 (win-loss-tie).

The 2008 Fall Sports seasons have started and so far the teams are off to a great start.

This past Friday evening the Trojan Volleyball Team hosted the Chokers from Grays Harbor College in a non-league match-up. The Trojans came out strong and took the match in 3 games with scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-23 putting their overall record at 1-0. Their next game is Wednesday 9/10 at Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, WA @ 7pm. Directions to GHC can be found under the directions link on the athletics main webpage.

The Trojan Women’s Soccer Team started their season taking a two game trip to Oregon. They first traveled to Eugene to play the Titans of Lane CC in a non-league match-up. It was a rough day as they lost 0-4. They then traveled a little further south to Coos Bay to play the Lakers of Southwestern Oregon CC, where they played competitive all game but at the end of it were behind 0-2. These two games brought them home with a 0-2 overall record. However, this past Friday evening 9/5, they traveled to Lynnwood (Meadowdale HS) to play Edmonds CC in their first league game of the 2008 season. It was a tough game but the Trojans came out on top 2-0. Then Saturday afternoon, they hosted the Thunderbirds of Highline CC. The two goals of the game were scored within the first two minutes of the game, one for each team thus ending the game in a tie 1-1. These games take the Trojans to 1-2-1 overall, and 1-0-1 overall.

The Trojan Men’s Soccer Team started their season when they traveled to Meadowdale HS in Lynnwood to play the Tritons of Edmonds CC on 9/5. It was close but in the end the Trojans pulled away and came home with a win 2-1. They then hosted Highline CC on Saturday afternoon. This game was a much tougher game and towards the end it looked like the Trojans were going to let the Thunderbirds get away with a 4-1 win. However in the final minutes of the game, the Trojans received a penalty kick that they made to put the score at 4-2 in favor of Highline. This made shot put a boost into the Trojans, but it was too late, time ran out before they could charge ahead and create more offense. This means that they are 1-1-0 overall & league.

The next games for Trojan Soccer happen this Tuesday 9/9 Home vs Bellevue CC, Thursday 9/11 vs Shoreline CC and Saturday 9/13 Women @ Lower Columbia College in Longview, WA & Men @ Peninsula College in Port Angeles, WA. Game times on Tues & Thurs are women @ 2pm; men @ 4pm; Sat game times are women @ 12pm; men @ 2pm. Home games are played at Kasch Park in Everett. 8811 Airport Rd/Kasch Park Rd. Directions to LCC & PeC can be found under the directions link on the athletics webpage.

The Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Teams have had two meets to date. With 29 runners, I’m sure that we have done a great job at both meets. At this point no results have been turned in to elaborate on. When I get them, I will post them. The next meet is Friday 9/12 at the West OCast Preview in Portland, OR at 4pm.

To keep up to date on scores and such, you can check out the NWAACC website at www.nwaacc.org

Thanks for your support of Trojan Athletics!

Jon Moe, a sophomore guard on the Men’s Basketball Team, has signed a letter of intent to attend school and play basketball at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks a Division II school in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference located in Fairbanks, AK.

J-Moe as he is known by on and off the court helped the 2007-08 Men’s team not only make it to the NWAACC Championship Tournament but helped them take 8th place. His playing ability also helped the Trojans score an average of 100.3 points at home, along with being the leading scorer with 681 points and an average of 22.0 points a game. Jon also had the best free-throe percentage this year with making 109 out of 130 for an f83.8 ree-throw percentage. In the game against Skagit Valley College, J-Moe scored a career high of 53 points.

Jon graduated from Shorecrest High School in 2005 and attended Shoreline CC and Edmonds CC before transferring to EvCC to attend school and play basketball in the 2006-07 season. In the 2007-08 season, he was named to the Northern Region All-Star 2nd Team and participated in the 2007-08 NWAACC Sophomore All-Star Event in March. In the North-East Game at that event, J-Moe scored 27 points of the 122 points that the North had. He was also the game leader in points and was tied for leader in assists with 7.

Best wishes go out to Jon on this new chapter. He may now be a Nanook (Eskimo for Polar Bear) but he will always be a Trojan!

The 2007-08 Softball team took 3rd place in the Northern Region thus advancing them to the NWAACC Championship Tournament. The double elimination tournament was held at Delta Park in Portland, OR, May 16th - 18th.

The team left Everett on Thursday for Portland with high hopes of bringing home the championship title. Unfortunately those hopes were dashed on Friday morning, May 16th when they played South Puget Sound CC at 9am. The Clippers won the game 9-0, sending the Trojans into the Loser’s Bracket. The next game was a must win for the Trojans if they wanted to stay in Portland an keep playing towards the title. They were matched against the Blue Mountain CC Timberwolves with the game time of 1:30pm on Friday afternoon. In the second game they battled with the Timberwolves but alas it wasn’t meant to be becuase at the end of the game the score was 8-5 in favor of Blue Mountain CC. This second loss ended the 2007-08 season for the Trojans. They finished with a league record of 22-14 and an overall record of 26-24.

Congratulations girls and coaches on a wonderful season. To the sophomores, we wish you the best of luck as you move onto other avenues. To the freshmen, we can’t wait for next season and another run at the Championship Title!

Sophomore Women’s Basketball player - Oliana (Oli) Seanoa has signed a letter of intent to attend school and play basketball at the New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM, which is a NCAA D-2 school.

She will be playing for new head coach - Tiffany Darling who previously was the head coach at Peninsula College in Port Angeles, WA. Coach Darling definitely knows about Oli’s playing ability due to the fact that EvCC plays Peninsula College twice in league play during the regular season.

Oliana is a 2006 Everett High School graduate where she made 1st Team All-League her senior year. While at EvCC, she has helped the Trojans take 1st place in the Northern Region two years running; participated at the NWAACC Championship Tournament that is held in Kennewick, WA the last two years; was named as a 2007-08 Northern Region All-Star 1st Team; and participated in the 2007-08 NWAACC Sophomore All-Star Event this past March. In her freshman year at Everett, she also played soccer but then decided to focus on basketball for her sophomore year. It seems like that decision has paid off.

We want to wish Oli the best of luck at NMHU. Even though you are now a Cowboy, you will always be a Trojan!

Good Luck!
