Farewell to the Gym Night
On Saturday, February 14th, 2009 the Trojans, along with their many families, friends and alumni will be saying Farewell to the Gym in a game against the North Seattle CC Storm.
The 2008-09 sports seasons are the last seasons that will be played in the current EvCC Sports & Fitness Complex on 13th & Rockefeller. In the fall of 2010, the new gym, which will be breaking ground on very soon, will open for the first athletic seasons and PE classes.
EvCC has held it’s sporting events at the current location since it seems like forever. It has seen many teams come through it’s doors and has held not only sporting events but also numerous physical education classes, camps, meetings, Pow Wow’s, and intramurals, amongst other activities. It has seen collegiate football come and go; women’s soccer and softball start up; baseball come, go and restart up; and men’s & women’s cross country and distance track start up. So many people have passed through it’s doors to participate and to spectate and have been affected by what has happened inside these walls. There have been many changes made to the gym over the years. The pool was closed in 2002 due to structure safety reasons; a women’s varisty room was built out of the old equipment room; a new equipment room was built next to the entrance to the women’s locker room; the men’s locker room had a wall put in to seperate it from a walkway to the men’s varsity room; an indoor batting cage was built in the upstairs gym; new flooring was put in the weight room and fitness center
Now with the growth that not only is the college doing but also the hospital, a new gym facility will be built nearer to main campus. In the spring of 2007, the student body voted and approved the Student Campus Enhancemnet Fund, from which some funding will be used to build the new gym. Everyone involved is anxiously awaiting the opening of the new gym and all of the eminities that it will have.
Please come out and help us say Farewell to the Gym and celebrate all of the wonderful experiences and memories that it has helped create for us all.
