HAVE YOU HURD – BCCAA All-Star Joins Spartans
LANGLEY, British Columbia – The B.C. Colleges Athletic Association’s leading scorer is bringing his considerable talents to Trinity Western University for the fall of 2008. Trinity Western University head men’s basketball coach Scott Allen announced that Columbia Bible College’s All-Star guard Louis Hurd (Spokane, Wash.) will be leaving the Bearcats to suit-up for the CIS’s Spartans this September.
“Louis will compliment the team with his quickness and ability to lead at the guard position. His incredible range, the ability to break his man down and create opportunities for his team mates to score will fit nicely into our system of balanced scoring,” said Allen.
This past season the third year guard led the BCCAA in scoring with 20.2 points-per-game and was third in assists with 4.5 per game, while adding three steals-per-game. He led the Bearcats to a fourth place finish in B.C. while earning a Second Team All-Star award in the process. Hurd set a career best in scoring with 36 points in a 96-77 loss to Malaspina College on Feb. 15, 08.
Prior to his year at Columbia Hurd spent two seasons in Everett, Wash. with the Everett Community College Trojans of the NWAACC division.
In 2006-07 the 5’11″, 197 lbs guard averaged 12.1 points-per-game, 2.8 rebounds-per-game, 2.34 assists-per-game and 1.5 assists-per-game. He tied his career best of 25 points two times, the first in a 116-92 loss to Clackamas Community College on Dec. 15, 06 and then again in a triple overtime 154-150 loss to North Seattle Community College on Feb. 19, 07.
During the 2005-06 season Hurd averaged 11.2 points-per-game, 1.3 rebounds-per-game, 1.1 steals-per-game and just less than one assist-per-game. He had a career best 25 points on Dec. 17, 2005 in an 88-84 victory over Blue Mountain College.
“Louis’ work ethic and outstanding range on his jumper were very impressive while playing here at Everett Community College,” commented Larry Walker, Athletic Director and Men’s Basketball Coach at Everett Community College. “He was always willing to put in the time to make himself better,”
Hurd graduated from North Central High School in Spokane, Wash. in 2005 where he earned Northwest Hoops 4A All-State honours.
Hurd will be enrolling in TWU’s School of Business in September.
“Louis has exemplified the Complete Champion Approach. His focus on academics, athletics and serving his community is very refreshing. We are fortunate to have signed Louis and it’s nice to hear him say that it’s a privilege to be a Spartan,” added Allen.
