Hosting the 1st game of the season against the Pierce College Raiders, right handed pitcher Ryan Woods continued to baffle hitters as he held

Pierce

College to only 2 hits in 6.0 innings of work on Saturday to raise his record to 2-0.
In two starts this year, Woods has allowed only one earned run.  Brad McGava (

Everett, WA) would relieve Woods in the 7th inning and would work his way out of trouble to complete the shutout.  The shutout was EvCC’s third on the young season. The Trojans got the offense going in the third inning scoring three runs.  After loading the bases on a Tyler Larson single, a walk by Jake Hammons and Donny Treat was hit by a pitch Gavin Heinemann hit a sacrifice fly and the Trojans scored another run on a Jason Blosser ground out. EvCC would extend their lead with runs in the 5th and the 7th inning and then would score four more in the 8th inning including three runs on a Heinemann single who was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.

Coming out and scoring early in the 1st, Everett CC added onto their 1-0 lead with a four run second inning.  Daniel Ulrich led off the inning with home run that was blasted over the netting in right center field. The Trojans would then load the bases for Jake Hammons and he came through in the clutch with a 2 run double.  Jason Blosser would cap off the scoring with an RBI sacrifice fly to put the Trojans up 5-0.  The 5 run lead was all starter Mason Tobin would need to pick up his second victory of the season.  In two starts this year, Tobin has yet to allow a run (earner or unearned).  Garrett Breda would later hit his first collegiate home run down the left field line to cap the Trojans scoring. Freshman pitcher Nick Collision entered in the 6th inning and continued to be impressive despite giving up a controversial run.  With a 0-2 count on the batter and a runner a third, Collision threw a pitch low and inside that bounced away from the catcher and allowed a run to score.  The batter who thought that he was hit in the foot raced down to first base but the umpire ruled that it was a pass ball not a hit batsman.  Collison struck out 6 hitters in 4 innings and allowed only one hit.   He now has 9 strikeouts in only 5 innings of work in 2007.
