Women win a close one to take 1st in league
This past Saturday the Bulldogs from Bellevue CC traveled to Everett to defend both their Men’s & Women’s teams 1st place spots in the Northern Region. Their women were 10-2 in league while their men were 11-0 in league going into the night. If you weren’t there… you missed a great women’s game!!
The Women’s game was a battle for 1st place. Everett’s women were technically tied with Bellevue for first even though they are a game behind due to the bye game that BCC has yet to have. At the start of the game, it looked like Bellevue was in complete command of the game. At no point were the Trojans leading the game in the first half. With not even a minute off the clock, Everett fouls on a shot and send the Bulldogs to the foul line. It went all down hill for the Trojans after that being behind by 25 points with about 4 minutes left. They went into half time behind by 20, 27-47. It was heartbreaking to see, since the Trojan Women have been doing so well and dominating teams. I’m not sure what was said during halftime, but it seemed to put a fire under the girls since they came out second half ready to play. With smart plays and a lot of heart and determination they slowly caught up with the Bulldogs, decreasing their lead with every possession. At the end of regulation play, the Trojans had scored 44 points and held the Bulldogs to only 24 ending in a tie 71-71 and sending the game into OT. Overtime is 5 minutes long and starts with a jump ball just like the start of the game, however everything else stays the same – ie fouls, bonuses and such. After the jump ball, the Bulldogs went ahead and it looked like they were going to take over and win, however the Trojans fought back and with under a minute left they tied the game up again. With time winding down, the Bulldogs had a chance to win it if they could make both free throws. Unfortunately for them, they didn’t and the OT ended in another tie, 84-84 and creating a second OT. Once again the OT was 5 minutes and started with a jump ball. The Bulldogs were ahead the second OT up until about a minute left then The Trojans took over, winning the game 99-98. This win takes them to 20-3 overall and 10-1 in league and taking over 1st place.
