Women tie for 1st Place
In Saturday’s last regular season basketball game, the Trojans traveled to Bellingham, WA to play the Whatcom CC Orcas.
In the first game of the night, the Women’s game, it was a match up to decide if the Trojans could hold 1st place for the Northern Region an not have to share the title with either Whatcom CC or Bellevue CC. Both of those teams were 12-3 going into Saturdays game with Everett being 13-2. A win for either BCC and/or WCC would create a tie for 1st place. With starting guard Kristina Schumacher still out with an ankle injury she sustained Feb 14 @ Olympic, it was going to be a tough game for the Trojans. The Orcas came out strong after doing their sophomore appreciation at the beginning of the game. At half time the Trojans were down 7, 31-38. With hopes of a good half time talk and strategy, the Trojans looked to take over. Unfortunately this wasn’t to be the case. The Orcas outscored the Trojans in the second half 36-29 to win the game 74-60. This created a tie with Whatcom for 1st place. It later became known that Bellevue defeated Olympic College to force a 3-way tie for 1st place in the Northern Region. With this happening, seeding for the NWAACC Championship Tournament was determined by the win-loss record against the other two teams. Everett goes into the tournament as the 2nd seed, with Bellevue as the 1st and Whatcom as the 3rd and Skagit rounding it out by taking 4th. The Trojans will play Thursday night at 10pm vs Tacoma CC at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, WA.
