Women Hoops take over sole 1st place
In last nights last home game of the season, the Tritons from Edmonds CC made their way to the EvCC Sports Complex & Fitness Center. Before each game, the Sophomores asked their parents, grandparents, or special friend to come down to the endline. At that time, each announced those that they would like to thank for their support over the past two years and gave them some flowers. Sophomore Trixy Miller’s aunt made signs for each Soph and Trixy gave out Lei’s to each Soph and all Coaches (she’s from Hawaii!).
All four sophomores started in the women’s game along with one freshman. It was definitely the Trojans night to shine. The Tritons were no match for the Women, even without starting point guard Kristina Schumacher, though she was on the bench cheering her teammates on. There were 6 Everett players that were in double digits in scoring to the Tritons only having 4 people score at all, the other 2 Everett players did score also! The Trojans played great defense and had the offense side going also. They forced 22 Triton turnovers, while having 29 assists and 46 rebounds, not to mention better shooting percentages (54.8% Field Goals, 44.4% 3-pointers, 58.8% Free Throws) than the Tritons (31.3% Field Goals, 15.4 3-pointers, 54.5% Free Throws). The score at half time was 40-21 in favor of the Trojans and it didn’t stop there. In the second half the Trojans outscored Edmonds again 46-29 to win the game 86-50. This win puts the Trojans in sole possession of 1st place in the Northern Region one game ahead of Bellevue CC and Whatcom CC, whom they face this Saturday in Bellingham. Their league record is 13-2 and their overall record is 23-4. Depending on what happens in Saturdays game, will decide when and who the Trojans will play in the first round of the NWAACC Championship Tournament next week. The NWAACC Championship Tournament starts Thursday 2/28 in Kennewick, WA, with the first game tip off at 8am and the last game starting at 10pm. This year the Northern Region plays the Western Region in the 1st round.
