Men’s Hoops still in 4th
Last night can only be described as EXCITING! The Storm from North Seattle CC traveled to EvCC to play the Trojans in league play.
The Men’s game was CRAZY!!! It started out all Trojan Basketball…. Going ahead by as much as 8 points up to the 7:39 minute mark. That was when things changed and not for the better. The Storm not only caught up but went ahead as time dwindled down in the first half, going into half time with an 11 point lead, 54-43. During the second half it looked like it was going to be all Storm Basketball that is up until there were about 6 minutes left. At that time with an 8-0 Trojan run the Trojans tied the game up at 90. Then it back and forth for the next few minutes until the Storm went ahead again and the Trojans played catch up. With just seconds left the Trojans were down by 3 and at the buzzer David Griffiths, who had been cold all game long, makes the game tying 3 to send it into Over Time at 109-109. The Trojans had scored 66 points in second half to the 55 of the Storm. Starting the 5 minute OT with a jump ball, the Trojans took control of the game going up by 7 with about 2 minutes left. With 8 seconds left, Inderbir Gill was fouled and shot 2 free throws and missed both keeping the scored tied at 123-123, however the Trojans got the offensive rebound. At this point a couple of the Trojan players thought that Inderbir had made the first free throw and held onto the ball to run out the clock thinking that they had won 124-123. This unfortunate thinking sent the game into a second OT. During the second 5 minute OT, the game went back and forth, back and forth, with both teams having a chance to win it as it came down to the final seconds. Unfortunately the score was tied once again as time ran out sending the game into a third OT at 134-134. Yes I said a THIRD OT!!! Now during this time all but 5 Storm players had fouled out of the game, while all but 6 Trojans hadn’t. It was quite obvious that the refs were not going to foul out another Storm player to make them have to play with 4 players. The Trojans were getting fouled profusely all around the court and yet there were no fouls being called. In the final seconds with the Trojans down and after bringing the ball down the court, we shoot and get fouled yet the refs didn’t call it, and as time ran out the Trojan bench went ballistic because of the uncalled foul that had two Trojan players laid out on the ground. Due to the horrible officiating at the end of the game (it was blatantly apparent the refs wanted to go home), the Trojans lost in Triple Over Time 150-154. This loss coming off of the 2 point loss to Skagit Valley on Saturday night takes the Trojans to 11-13 overall and 6-8 in league. However they are still tied for 4th place with Olympic and Skagit with two more games left. They are still alive with a chance to go to the NWAACC Championship Tournament next weekend. It is a must win situation for them going into the last two games.
