Skagit Valley College Cardinals traveled to EvCC to play the Trojans in league competition. The Women started the night with a very exciting game that was a nail biter at the end. Early in the game the Trojans created and held a good lead leading by 17 at one point and then going into half time ahead 47-32. During half time, Skagits’ coach must have lit a fire, because they came out and went on a 21-5 run to tie up the game at 52. From that point on it went back and forth with neither team going any more than 3 points ahead of the other. With about a minute left, the Cardinals hit a 2 pointer to go ahead 67-66 and then creates a jump ball with possession going to the Cardinals. At that time they took a timeout. After the time out, the Cardinals score again making it 69-66 with about 7 seconds left on the clock. The Trojans bring the ball down the court and make a 3 pointer with 1 second on the clock. Thus taking the game into OVERTIME – 69-69. OT is 5 minutes long and starts with a jump ball. Everett won the jump ball and play was on…. It went back and forth for the whole 5 minutes. With less than a minute left, Trojans make a 3 pointer to go ahead 79-78. After the made 3, Coach Hovde calls a timeout. Play resumes and with about 15 seconds to go, Cardinals get a steal and call a time out. Play resumes and with about 4 seconds left, the Trojans get a steal and win the game 79-78!! It was a defensive game for both teams. Each team had 8 blocked shots with the Trojans forcing 25 Cardinal turnovers while the Cardinals forced 24 Trojan turnovers. This win takes them to 4-1 in league and 14-3 overall.
