Men’s Hoops look for 3rd league win and 3rd win in a row
Last night, the Trojans traveled to Lynnwood to play the Edmonds CC Tritons in league play.
Looking to win a third game in a row, the Men’s team came out very determined to play well and win. As usual, they went back and forth for most of the first half, with the Trojans leading by 2, 46-44 going into half time. In the second half Everett took the lead, being ahead by 14 a couple of times, the last with 5:32 left in the game. At that time, the Trojans committed 2 fouls that sent the Tritons to the Free Throw line, making 3 out of 4 shots. Missed shots and turnovers by Everett allowed for Edmonds to get back into the game. With 2:27 left, Everett fouls and then there was a double technical foul on the floor. At this point the Trojans are only leading by 7. Because of the first Everett foul, the Tritons got to shoot 2 free throws, making both to shorten the lead to 5. With about a minute left, we foul and they make 1 for 2 at the free throw line. We are now leading by only 2 points. We call a time out, when we come back out, we miss a three pointer, but draw the foul from the Tritons on the rebound. At this time they call a time out with 11.2 seconds on the clock. We make the first one yet miss the second however get the offensive rebound, which they foul again. Now during this time, the clock had gotten down to 5.2 seconds. That is because they people working the clock messed up. Edmonds coach was going ballistic. The officials chatted and decided to put 6.0 seconds on the clock and the play would stand. Because of Edmonds foul, we go back to the line to shoot 2 more and make both, putting us up by 5 again. Now with 6 seconds on the clock Edmonds take the ball down the court with the Everett coaches yelling – NO FOULS!!!! Edmonds makes a 3 pointer at the buzzer but it isn’t enough… Trojans win 88-86!!! This takes the Trojans record to an even 500 – 8-8 overall and 3-3 in league.
Game Highs:
Jon Moe – 22 points, 6 rebounds; Chris Gill – 19 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocked shots; Louis Hurd – 16 points; Inderbir Gill - 15 points, 10 assists, 4 steals.
